I just recently learned about a website called Lark News.

It’s basically a ‘news’ website, but all the stories are spoofs that mock many of the silly things that happen in the Christian world.

I’m honestly still trying to figure out whether I think it’s a good thing or a bad thing. The fact that you can buy t-shirts and mugs and all kinds of mocking things is particularly frustrating.

But the site is surely funny. Here’s a ’story’ that had me laughing out loud.

Excerpt:

John Randall and family recently received a letter from their sponsor child in Honduras. But instead of offering an update and gratitude for their continued support, 11-year-old Maria Salvador told them she was boycotting them.
“She said it was nothing personal, but her sponsor child union wanted better terms,” says Becky Randall, 34. “She asked us to please remove her photograph from the refrigerator and cease all communication with her until the strike is resolved.”
In a new wrinkle for child sponsor ministries, sponsor children in several countries have united to demand better terms. They are asking for $45 a month, up from the standard $28, plus a 7 percent annual increase, new uniforms, better medical care and more frequent gift packages from sponsors.
“American sponsor organizations can’t exist without us, and we want a better deal,” says one child union representative.

So I bought Stephanie an iPod for her birthday, and she taken up a sudden interest in music.

Well… that’s not really true. She’s always loved music, but since we’ve been married, she hasn’t really expressed that very much. She pretty much just listens to whatever I want, and tries to like it.
But now, all of the sudden, she’s like Carson Dailey or something — she’s downloaded 38 songs from iTunes in a week!

I was just listening to Driscoll teaching on rest and sabath.

Here are some highlights:

I listened to a fantastic message yesterday about mommies (iTunes podcast URL here). It was the mother’s day message from Mars Hill church in Seattle, by pastor Mark Driscoll, who I’ve been learning a lot from. It made me thankful for my mom, and excited about the future and seeing my wife become a mommy too.

J.D. Greear writes about his experience at the convergent conference at Southeastern this past weekend.

I’d be jealous if he just got to go to the conference…. but he was a speaker and got to spent the weekend with Mark Driscoll, which makes me green with envy.

He notes some really interesting and important things about the ‘emerging’ issues in the Church:

At SEBTS he discussed, in full detail, the emerging church movement. His perspective is unusual in that he addresses thing from the inside, having started out this process aligned with all the variant streams of the emerging church. He identifies 3 streams now…

I’ve been listening to Mark Driscoll a fair bit lately. (I highly recommend that you subscribe to the podcast)

Today I was listening to a teaching about scripture — where it comes from, how to approach it, etc.

Here’s a rough quote:

I listened to several hours of ‘christian’ radio last week. I don’ t do that very often because then I say things that I have to repent of.

He made me chuckle because I understand where he’s coming from.
