Is this true?

I’ve read on three blogs (here, here, and here) that Louie Giglio and Chris Tomlin will be starting a church fellowship together.

Human3rror reports:

It’s true.  Chris Tomlin announced today, in a partners/members meeting after the 9:30am service, that he is planning to leave the Austin Stone Community Church to pursue God’s calling to start up a new church with long time friend and partner Louie Giglio in the Atlanta, Georgia area.

Has anybody else heard this?

I’m skeptical, but really excited!

  1. It’s true. 🙂

  2. church planting in the Atlanta, Georgia area… what a new idea…

(sarcasm is really dripping from your mouse, keyboard, and screen – check it out)

    K. Now, sarcasm aside, let me respond. I love both those guys and the ministry that they gave to me in college. However, there are a LOT of churches in the Atl. ALOT of new church plants. Why not go to LA or San Diego or Albuquerque or San Francisco – where there are not so many churches per square foot?

At the end of the day, though, this church will be successful largely on their success at the college and post-college level. I hope that, as a church, they will be able to begin the kinds of discipleship that has been missing from Passion (It is an event, after all – no fault of its own).

I’m afraid this might be a case of the current Baptist and (though they wouldn’t say it this way) non-Denominational (which equals Baptist theology + modern music and Christian liberty) trend of SPEAKER + MUSIC LEADER = CHURCH

there will be much discussion on this in the days to come 🙂

  3. Yes its true. We are “friends” of the Stone and it’s all been confirmed.

As for Stephen comment. LA & SD have plenty of churches, just like Atl. I do agree-does ATL need another church? I think we forget that maybe 2-3 million people do not attend church in the ATL. Also Louie understand the context.

At the same time it would be awesome if they would have gone to Boston or NYC. But you gotta trust God’s calling I guess.
